I DON’T REALLY KNOW WHAT MIDDLE AGE IS ANYMORE. DO YOU? DOESN’T MATTER. What does matter is there seems to be some fissure in time, a weird vortex where you’re suddenly … different. Like in an alternate reality. You look down and your gut is popping out past your belt further than when you last checked (for sure you’re just bloated). Those heart-pumping spin classes with the music blasting so loud you can’t hear your own gasping breath, the racked up miles on the road or trail, or the gazillion gallons of sweat lost somewhere deep in the hot yoga studio’s wood floor or mop (gross) don’t seem to be paying off quite the way they used to. The strength and speed that used to come like swiftness to a wild gazelle … is perhaps a little closer to a sluggish motor attached to a 5-year old’s wagon. You might even be burning out a little, a beacon that’s led thousands of ships to safety, is starting to flicker.
